About Me

  

Dr. Kuir ë Garang is a South Sudanese Canadian poet, author, and political commentator currently living in Toronto, Ontario. He was born in South Sudan before the beginning of the second Sudanese civil war. He came to Canada as a refugee student in 2002 through the World University Services of Canada Refugee sponsorship program after living in refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya.  


Kuir writes on issues color-based identities and how they affect institutions and service provision to the people, especially the most marginalized. He has been writing about Sudan and South Sudan for more than fifteen years. 


He has a bachelor of arts in philosophy from McGill University, a master of arts in interdisciplinary studies (cultural studies & philosophy) from Athabasca University, a doctor of philosophy (PhD) at York University, Toronto.


His dissertation:  "Blackness” As a Human Identity and its Ethical and Social Implications: Discursive Impositions, Colonial Entrapments, And the Attendant Phenomenological Questions."
